Review of Professor T: A Fish Called Walter

If you tuned in to the latest episode of Professor T, “A Fish Named Walter,” you were in for a delightful treat filled with unexpected twists, humour, and a sprinkle of heartfelt moments.

The Case
Celebrating at a party at the museum of cambridge, a woman is watching intently at another man. She looks tense as he laughs in the company of women. An older gentleman is seen downing drinks of champagne, he smiles at the woman before taking a gulp. He then struggles to speak and kneels to the floor. His mouth is foaming as party guests look around in horror.

Professor T’s lesson
Professor T is in the lecture hall begins his teaching with the history of scientists attempting to show that some people are predisposed to criminal behaviour. Cesare Lombroso claimed to have found evidence that there was such a thing as criminal genes and it could be passed on as well as recognisable to others as a physical trait. He assigns an essay on the nature of a criminal.

At the scene of the crime, it is discussed that the suspect pool is large with over 100 guests. The man is known to be Nigel Wiggins the chief librarian at the university. The champagne, or as Martin the forensic scientist remarks, ‘the cheap cava’ was possibly affected by cyanide. They suspect whoever poisoned Mr Wiggins had another intended target in mind.

On the notice board for the Professor’s office it notes that it is the birthday of Ingrid Snares, his assistant, which the Professor ignores. Waiting inside his office sits DS Donckers and Winters who visit the Professor for insight on the suspect. He explains that women are more likely to use poison to murder someone than men.

The plot for ‘The Fish called Walter’ intertwines two murder cases the team are looking into, the poisoning of Nigel Wiggins and Mr. Fell, who had fallen off a building site. While initially thought to be suicide, the case is more complicated than it once was seen. The family have a daughter with leukemia and the case is difficult on DI Rabbit who lost his only daughter to a hit and run accident.

The case seems to come to a conclusion initially but Donckers is not convinced, she is determined to get to the bottom of the case and manages to find a link that wasn’t explored. Donckers is her usual persistent self, arriving to work late so she could follow up on some leads, which works out for her as she manages to uncover the truth behind the murders.

From dancing cheerleaders to speaking to the dead, the Professor’s imaginative mind is on display for people at home to laugh at his eccentricism. Comparatively, he has an outwardly perception of being blunt and cold when he chooses to. His personality is complex and intriguing, hints of his troubled childhood is littered throughout the episode.

Hints of DCI Christina and the Professor’s relationship is briefly explored, the Professor mentioning that proposal’s don’t work out in the two’s favour. Viewers may find it hard to imagine the two in a relationship but we hope to get glimpses of them in future episodes. We are left wondering if the two will find their way back to each other?

The ending scene is particularly heart warming with the Professor, reading out Donckers essay on the nature of a criminal. He shows both pride and utmost respect to his former student.

The episode A Fish Named Walter was an excellent episode that provided humour, sleuthing for clues and insight to the main cast.
