Review of Professor T: Episode 3 Tiger Tiger

Professor T Episode 3: Tiger Tiger

In this episode, there is a shift in the usual format, it marks the first time we don’t see a lecture lesson from the Professor.

Case
Instructed to secure the zip tie on her mother, Mrs Banerjee’s hand, Priyanka nervously returns back to her chair. Two masked men are waving guns, they bark at the two women they are holding hostage to keep quiet. Scenes of a Mr Banerjee, a jewellery shop owner, running and frantically searching are spliced in between the hostage scene. He is seen carrying a black bag which he holds close to his chest, sprinting to his destination he fails to see a car on his left. In an instant the car runs the man over, his bag out of his grip.

Just as the tension could not get any worse, Priyanka’s sister Padma and her daughter arrive at the house. The hostage-takers grab the two and force them into the living room. Unbeknownst to the hostages, Mr Banerjee is in the hospital, the police find his bag containing black diamonds worth over £1 million! It’s a suspenseful case as the lives of 4 people are held to be held in the hands of our Professor T.

Back at Professor T’s home he is noticeably annoyed at his mother using the studio to paint. He begins to feel suffocated and sees her everywhere he looks. He runs up the stairs in a panic as he visions the dog, Kafka and his mother taking up his space. In his rush he falls down the stairs, calling for an ambulance, he requests for one without a siren – of course.

1 / 7

The episode deviates from the first two episodes with there being no lecture taking place as well as no murder. The team are instead thrust into a hostage situation, Professor T inserts himself into the case, as his home is being disinfected from everyone entering his house after he fell. He takes charge of the case by answering the hostage takers calls and hanging up the phone on them. A scene that terrifies the team, but works out in his favour as the men only want to talk to the Professor.

One of the more prominent themes in this episode is the relationship between parent and child and the added complexities it can hold.

Adelaide and Professor T present an interesting relationship marked by emotional distance, possibly stemming from the abuse the two faced from the Professor’s father. Adelaide worries deeply about him, inserting herself into his life against the Professor’s wishes.

Donckers is shown to be a caregiver for her father as he suffers from memory loss, she chooses to stay inside with her father rather than go to get drinks with Winters. Her love for her father is apparent as she makes him his favourite pasta and snuggles up to him. It’s a vulnerable side to Donckers that we haven’t seen before, she seemingly has a lot on her plate and it gives reason why she may not want to start a relationship with Winters as of yet.

Tiger Tiger is a stand out episode for its change in direction and viewers being able to see a more vulnerable side to the team.

What were your thoughts on the episode? Did you like the hostage plot line?
