Review of Professor T: Episode 4 Mother’s Love

The case
A man is found bloody and beaten on his living room floor, his au pair, walks in as well as his wife, they yell out for Charlie, their daughter who was in his care. Charlie is missing from her bed, Sally calls the police.

Charlie’s father Max explains that he was jumped by a masked assailant after he saw a security light going off in the garden. They question the parents as Professor T, remarks that most kidnapping cases involve a close family member.

Jasper receives an invitation to his mothers upcoming exhibition, he imagines himself ripping them up and the invitation setting itself on fire. His imagination is vivid and angry while his outer demeanor is calmer, he simply throws the letter in the bin.

The next scene is of a woman smoking cigarettes and pushing the missing child, Charlie, on a swing.

The couple receive the ransom letter and speak of re-mortgaging the house but it would take too long, or getting a loan.

At a late night catch up with Winters at the office, donckers annoyed tells winters to stop being so nice to her, the two then kiss. They stop before things go further as donckers says it isnt right to do when a six year old child is missing and asks for a rain check.

Late at night, tensions rise in the office as Winters and Donckers share a passionate kiss. But just as things heat up, Donckers pauses it from getting any steamier, reminding Winters that it’s not the right time for romance with a six-year-old child still missing.

DS Rabbit orders for the team to apologise to Max for the accusations, which Donckers refuses to do. Rabbit is personally affected by this and the two raise their voices. He shoots a comment to Donckers questioning her professionalism considering her flirtatious relationship with Winters. Professor T interrupts him, agreeing with Donckers and mentions Rabbit’s alcoholism which impairs him from his work.

Alcohol is the anesthesia to which we endure the operation of life. – Professor T

Professor T’s lessonBroken windows theory
In 1969, Philip Zimbardo conducted an experiment using two cars, one in New York and the other in LA. The car in Bronx was broken into while the LA car was untouched until Zimbardo broke one of the windows. Then the car was robbed and vandalised in to.

This theory explains that visible signs of crime encourages further crimes, therefore police should not ignore minor crimes as it will lead to major criminal activity to occur.

The central theme of this episode is around a mother’s love for her child. Charlie’s mother was prepared to do anything to get her child back. Professor T discretely shows his love to his mother by attending her exhibition, then buying multiple pieces anonymously. Despite his mothers insistence for Professor T to attend, she speaks loving of him and says he is here in spirit.

A ‘Mother’s Love’ was a drama packed episode, Professor T addressing DI Rabbit’s alcoholism leading to him being punched, discovering the kidnapper of Charlie and the complex story behind her being missing.
